Returns and claims
Fault, damage, or a change of heart.
Three different situations get three different answers. Read the line that matches yours before you write, and always write before you post a heavy parcel back to Hong Kong.
The window
Fourteen days from the day the parcel is delivered, for both a fault and a change of mind. For a transit break or a cracked casting, the clock is tighter in practice: photograph the carton and the piece on the day it lands, before you throw the packaging away. A claim raised weeks later, with the carton gone, is very hard to prove against the carrier. Genuine manufacturing faults that appear later, such as an enamel interior flaking after a month of normal cooking, are handled as a warranty matter rather than a fourteen-day return, and we will still look at them.
Three verdicts
A. A real manufacturing fault
The piece left us wrong. A casting that has cracked along the wall or the helper handle without being dropped. Enamel that has flaked away from the rim or the interior on first use. A riveted handle that is loose out of the carton. A tri-ply base that is delaminated, so the stainless skin lifts from the core. A glass lid that does not seat on the rim it was made for. A kettle whose thermostat cuts out at the wrong temperature. Send photographs of the piece and the carton, and we replace it or refund it in full, and we pay the freight both ways.
B. Damage you caused, or wear
The piece left us sound and the kitchen damaged it. Thermal shock is the classic one: a hot skillet into cold water, or a cold pan onto a hot ring, which cracks or warps bare iron and can craze or chip enamel. Rust on a bare iron pan that was put away wet. Carbon burnt onto the cooking surface because the heat was too high, or a polymerised layer that has gone sticky and uneven. Scoring and coating loss from metal utensils or a dishwasher cycle that a care card told you to avoid. Enamel chipping from a knock against the sink. These are not faults and are not covered; we will still tell you how to strip, reseason and bring the pan back.
C. A change of mind
You ordered the 25 cm skillet and wanted the 27 cm grill pan, or the colour does not suit the kitchen. Unused, unseasoned and still in the original wrap with the carton and the care card: write within fourteen days of delivery and we take it back, with you paying return freight. Once a pan has been heated, oiled and cooked in, the seasoning has bonded to the iron and the piece can no longer be sold as new, so we cannot accept it back for a change of mind. That is the hard line on this page, and it is the same reason we cannot resell it to someone else.
Enamel: chipping is not crazing
A chip is a piece of glass missing from the surface, usually at a rim that met the sink or another pan. Crazing is the fine web of hairline lines under an intact glaze, and on enamelled cast iron it can follow the thermal shock of heating an empty pan or cooling a hot one too fast. A chip is damage; crazing that stays under the surface is not, though we will assess a crazed interior that also flakes. Photograph both in daylight and we will tell you which one you have.
Transit damage: cracked cast, shattered lid
A cast piece that arrives cracked, or a glass lid that shatters inside the box, is our problem, not yours. Keep everything: the outer carton, the corner blocks, the foam ring, the lid sleeve, the inner wrap and the broken parts. Photograph the closed carton with the label visible, then the opened carton as you found it, then the damage in close-up. Email those to us with the order reference the same day. Do not fit a broken pan to a hob to test it and do not glue a lid. Once we have the pictures we replace the piece and we cover that freight, including the return of the broken item if the carrier asks for it. If the carrier wants an inspection, we arrange it from Hong Kong and you do not pay for it.
How a return runs
-
01
Write before you post
Email the order reference, the SKU, the fault and photographs to the address on this page within fourteen days of delivery. We send back a return authorisation number and the exact address. Do not ship anything before that number exists; an unauthorised parcel has no file and may be refused at the door.
-
02
Pack it as it came
Return goods to our registered office, the address printed at the foot of this page. Use the original carton with the corner blocks and the foam ring if you still have them, and add outer protection for a cast piece, which is heavy enough to break its own box. Send by a tracked service and keep the tracking number; until the parcel reaches us it is your risk, not ours.
-
03
Freight and inspection
Faulty goods: we cover return freight and the replacement leg. Change of mind: you pay return freight and we do not refund the original outbound freight. We inspect the piece on arrival, which normally takes two working days, and we tell you the result in writing with the reason if we cannot accept it.
-
04
Refund or exchange
An accepted refund is issued within ten working days of inspection, to the original payment method, in US dollars. Bank charges levied by an intermediary are outside our control. Exchanges depend on foundry stock; if the size or colour is not available we say so and offer a refund or a wait with a stated date.
Other cases worth knowing
Warranty versus return
A return undoes a purchase. A warranty repairs or replaces a piece that failed in normal use after the fourteen-day window. We give twelve months against manufacturing defect on cast and stainless bodies, and ninety days on coatings and nonstick surfaces, which are consumables and wear with heat. The warranty does not cover thermal shock, rust from wet storage, burnt-on carbon, dishwasher damage or commercial-volume abuse.
Custom and engraved pieces
Laser-etched logos, custom enamel colours, non-standard sizes and private-label runs are made to your specification and cannot be resold, so they are not returnable for a change of mind. A manufacturing fault on a custom run is still our responsibility.
EU and UK cooling-off
Consumers in the European Union and the United Kingdom have a fourteen-day right to withdraw from a distance sale, running from delivery, without giving a reason. Tell us in writing inside that period. The goods must come back unused, unseasoned and in their packaging; you pay the return freight and we refund the goods value within ten working days. Business-to-business orders, custom runs and clearly personalised pieces are outside that right.
Refused by customs
If a parcel is returned to us because the receiver refused it, did not pay import duty or could not be reached, we treat it as a change of mind on arrival: we refund the goods value less the outbound and return freight we actually paid, and we pass on any duty the carrier has charged. Tell us early if a consignment is stuck and we will do what we can with the forwarder before it becomes a return.
